- Evaluate images and derive a Theme to use for your design
- Using traditional hand drawing, produce some initial design concepts (first principles) from the chosen theme
EVALUATION OF SYSTEM
Water Deformations
The following images depict the various reactions of water droplets to different stimuli. Due to surface tension and the equilibrium of the substance, water will have quite striking behavior.
Themes: Symmetry, Smooth Surface, Translucent, Refractive
Water subjected to sound waves.

A droplet bouncing of water surface.
Scales
Here, close-up views of various scale forms are shown.
Themes: Tessellation (not perfectly but still able to maintain coverage of the underlying surface), Overlapping, Orientation
Various types of scales
Radial Expansion
These are examples of expanding patterns radiating from a central stem.
Themes: Symmetry,
Cross section of fiber optic cable.
Crystalline Growth
A system built from smaller elements with little variance through out the growth proses. Structure is the same through out with each element displaying the same behavior.
Themes: Repetition, Exponential Growth, Linear
Geometric Chronograph
A pattern derived from the captured movement of a man walking. The resulting graph depicts this in the form waves with minute changes over time.
Themes: Recto and Curvilinear, Repetition
